Planet Pet Picks: Three Dog Bakery

by Leah O’Donnell, Healthy Planet Lifestyles Editor

Three Dog Bakery has the right ideas for the perfect pet business. Owner, Kathy Caton focuses on providing healthy foods and treats, a fun pet friendly atmosphere and events, and giving back to neglected and abused animals. Kathy opened the Town and Country location in August of 2010 with her daughter-in-law, Erin Preuss as the manager. Fresh treats are baked daily at the bakery which is also home to a pet friendly store. “We got into this to provide all natural, healthy treats and foods for dogs. We do lots of social events to have fun with your dogs,” Caton said.

The Three Dog Bakery food brand, Bake to Nature consists of no artificial colors or additives, no animal byproducts, no added sugar or salt, no artificial preservatives, and no wheat, corn, or soy. They have several varieties available for puppies, adults, seniors, and even dogs that need a healthy weight formula. Gracie’s Gourmet is their line of wet dog food. The different varieties available cater to your dog’s needs and health issues. Three Dog Bakery has a full selection of packaged treats as well as fresh baked treats in cases so you can mix and match your selections. I love the Roll Over Rewards that come packaged and are perfect for training due to their petite size. Erin Preuss, manager of Three Dog Bakery said, “All of our treats are human grade quality. I have actually tried several of them and would not want to give my dogs something I would not eat.” The fresh baked treats are as beautiful as they are healthy for your dogs. Every month they offer a treat-of-the-month and give customers a card so their dogs can enjoy one for free every month. The fresh baked treats include everything from Growl nola Bars, Basset Bones, Beggin’ for Smores, and Mutt aroons to everything inbetween. The names are as cute as the treats here. They also offer custom cakes for your dog’s birthday or other occasion and even a healthy cat treat called We Pity the Kitties, which my picky cat loved. If your dog has a dietary need, there is plenty here to accommodate that as well. Wheat free treats and other allergen free treats are available. The store carries toys, leashes, collars, supplements, chew bones, and other accessories.

There are lots of social events at Three Dog Bakery. They host “Mutt Mixer” every Thursday night from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the store. This includes appetizers for you and treats for your dog. It is a great opportunity to meet other dog owners and for your dog to gain social skills. “Puppy Play Time” is on Saturdays from 10 – noon. This is perfect for bringing your new puppy out to burn off some energy. My favorite event is the “Dog’s Night Out” event. This one does require reservations. Enjoy dinner out with your dog. The June Dog’s Night Out is being held at Café Provencal in Kirkwood on June 21st at 6:30 p.m. Your dog is served dinner created by Three Dog Bakery and you can order off the restaurant menu for yourself. A donation of $20 per dog is requested to benefit the Three Dog Foundation, a non-profit branch of Three Dog Bakery that provides grants to rescue groups throughout the nation. Your meal is not included with the donation. Be sure to call Three Dog Bakery to reserve a spot for you and your pooch. Three Dog Bakery does monthly adoption days with Dirk’s Fund being the rescue organization there on June 11 at 11 a.m. This group has rescued Golden Retrievers available for adoption. Three Dog Bakery also has Rescue Wednesdays, where 5% of all proceeds are donated to a local pet rescue organization. Last but not least, don’t miss 10% ARF Tuesdays. Customers receive 10% Off any one item every Tuesday! As you can see, Three Dog Bakery caters to you and your dogs.
